To Perform Server Tasks

Click Directory Servers tab or Proxy Servers tab, a server name. Then click the appropriate button, or choose the action from the drop-down menu.
You can perform the following actions:
- View general server information and run modes and status.
- Start, stop, or restart a server.
- Delete a server.
- Perform backups or restores.
- Copy a server configuration to one or more other servers.
- Register or unregister a server.
  
  Note - You can also use the Common Tasks tab to manage registered servers.
You can perform some additional actions in the More Server Actions drop-down list that is visible after you click a server name. These are:
- Disable or enable additional referrals.
- Put the server in read-only mode, frozen mode or read-write mode.
  Read-only mode is designed to prevent modifications to the directory contents while performing tasks such as reindexing the suffixes. When your server is in read-only mode, you cannot update data entries on a suffix, but you can make changes to the server configuration. If you plan to make a file system snapshot of your server, first put the server in frozen mode. Frozen mode enables you to stop database updates on disk so that the snapshot can be taken safely. This additional measure ensures a robust backup. Read-write mode is the server state for normal running operation.
