Restoring a Mailbox

Use the Mailbox Restore Wizard from the Backups toolbar to restore an account in the event that a user's mailbox becomes corrupt. You can restore the user account from full and incremental backup sets. You can add a prefix to the account name to restore the mailbox to a new account.

To restore an account
  1. From Backups, click Restore. The Mailbox Restore Wizard opens.

  2. Enter the complete email address of the account you want to restore. Click Next.

  3. You can also open a backup session listed in the content pane and select the account to restore from the Accounts list.

  4. Select the target server to restore the account to. Type the complete path name to the backup files. The Zimbra default backup directory is /opt/zimbra/backup. Click Next.

  5. Select the session label to restore from the full backup session listed in the drop-down.

  6. If you want to include incremental backups, check the box. Checking this box processes all incrementals as well as the current redolog, taking the account to its current state (meaning now).

  1. Select the restore method:

  1. For new accounts, type a prefix that will be prepended to the new account name. The default is restored_.

  2. Click Restore. The mailbox is restored. Click Finish.

  3. When the account is restored, if the COS that the account was assigned no longer exists, the default COS is assigned to the account.

  1. After you restore accounts, you should immediately run a full backup of the accounts to avoid future restoration problems with those accounts.
