Cloning an Inbound Replica

You can clone an inbound replica to create a new volume in the secondary group with the same size and contents as the original volume at the time the replica was created.

Cloning a replica consumes additional space in the secondary group from the delegated space pool (equal to the volume reserve at the time the replica was created). In addition, if you want to create snapshots or replicate the new volume, additional space will be needed.

After cloning, the replica still exists and the replica set remains complete. In addition, cloning does not affect volume replication. The primary group, if it is still functioning, can still replicate the volume to the secondary group.

Use the following procedure to clone a replica:

1. Ensure that the secondary group has enough free pool space to clone the replica (100% of the volume reserve at the time the replica was created).
2. Log in to the secondary group and click:
   
   Replication partners > partner_name > Inbound tab
   
   The partner_name is the name of the primary group (the group where the original volume resides).
3. In the Local Replicas panel of the Inbound Replication window, click Volume replicas. Expand the volume and select the replica.
   
   If the replica is part of a replica collection, click Collection replicas in the Local Replicas panel. Expand the volume collection and the replica collection. Then, select the replica.
4. In the Activities panel, click Clone replica.
5. In the Clone Volume Replica - General Settings dialog box (Figure 28: Clone Volume Replica - General Settings ), specify the new volume name and, optionally, a description. Then click Next.

6. In the Clone Volume Replica - Space Reserve dialog box (Figure 29: Clone Volume Replica - Space Reserve ), change the default amount of snapshot reserve, as needed. (To change the volume size or thin provisioning setting, you must finish creating the volume and then modify the volume). Then, click Next.

7. In the Clone Volume Replica - iSCSI Access window (Figure 30: Clone Volume Replica - iSCSI Access ), specify access controls for the volume. Then, click Next.

8. In the Clone Volume Replica - Summary window (Figure 31: Clone Volume Replica - Summary ), if all the information is correct, click Finish. To make changes, click Back.

The new volume will appear in the list of volumes in the far left panel.
