Creating Replicas

You can create replicas of individual volumes or volume collections at the current time. Alternately, you can set up a schedule for the creation of replicas, as described in Scheduling Replication.

The set of replicas for a volume is called a replica set. If you replicate a volume collection, the resulting set of replicas is called a replica collection. All the replica collections for a specific volume collection are called a replica collection set. When complete, a replica collection contains one replica for each volume in the collection and represents the contents of the collection volumes at the time the replication operation was initiated.

Before you can create a replica, you must set up the replication partners and enable replication on the volume (and volume collection, if applicable).

To create a replica of a volume at the current time, click:

Volumes > volume_name > Create replica now

Confirm that you want to create a replica.

To display replicas and replication status, select the volume in the far left panel, and then click the Replication tab.

To replicate a volume collection, click:

Volume collection > collection_name > Create replica now

The resulting replica collection will appear in the far left panel under the volume collection name. Replica collections are identified by the date and time that the replication operation was initiated.

Note: If a volume is configured to use manual transfer replication, after creating the first replica, you must perform additional tasks on both the primary group and the secondary group. See Displaying Replication Status for more information.
