You are here: PS Series Group Administration > Getting Started > Essential Setup Steps
The following steps describe the process for getting started with a PS Series array.
Step 1. Set up the array hardware. Following all the safely precautions, install the array in a rack and connect the required cables. When you turn on power to the array, ensure there are no errors and no red LEDs.
See the PS Series QuickStart or SAN Setup poster for your model array for hardware installation information.
Step 2: Configure the array and create or expand a group. See Configuring an Array and Creating a Group or Adding Members to an Existing Group.
Step 3: Choose the RAID policy for the member. To complete the configuration, use the Group Manager GUI or CLI to choose the RAID policy for the member. The storage in the member will be available once you set the RAID policy.
See Using the Group Manager Graphical User Interface, Using the Group Manager Command Line Interface, and Introduction to Member RAID Policies.
Step 4: Create a volume. Use the Group Manager GUI or CLI to create a volume. You must assign a name, size, and access controls to the volume.
See Creating Volumes.
Step 5: Connect to the volume from a host system. A volume is seen on the network as an iSCSI target. A host system needs an industry-standard iSCSI initiator to connect to the volume. Once a host is connected, the volume appears as a regular disk.
See Connecting Hosts to Volumes and Snapshots.
After performing the essential steps, you can customize the group and use the complete range of group features. See Where to Go Next.
