Modifying a Volume Name, Description, and Alias

You can modify the name that is used to identify the volume for administrative purposes and the volume description.

You can also modify the iSCSI target name alias (public name) for a volume. If you are using the default group-wide volume setting, the alias is the same as the volume name. The volume alias is seen by some iSCSI initiators along with the iSCSI target name. It can help administrators identify the volume.

Note: Of you rename a volume, the iSCSI target name (and any existing snapshot or replica set names) will not change. However, if you rename a volume and the volume alias is set to be the same as the volume name, the alias will change accordingly.

To modify a volume name or description, click:

Volumes > volume_name > Modify volume settings > General tab

The Modify Volume Settings - General dialog box appears (Figure 19: Modify Volume Settings - General ).

Modify the name in the Volume name field. The volume name must be unique and can contain up to 64 alphanumeric characters (including periods, hyphens, and colons).

Optionally, specify a description for the volume in the Description field.

When you are finished making changes, click OK.

To modify the alias for a volume, click:

Volumes > volume_name > Modify volume settings > Advanced tab

The Modify Volume Settings - Advanced window appears (Figure 21: Modify Volume Settings - Advanced ).

Specify a volume alias in the Public alias field and click OK.
