Promoting a Failback Replica Set to a Volume

As the final step in failing back to the primary group, you must promote the failback replica set to a volume, returning it to its original state.

Note: Before promoting a failback replica set, be sure to replicate any changes from the recovery volume on the secondary group. Also, you must demote the recovery volume to the original inbound replica set. See Demoting a Recovery Volume to an Inbound Replica Set for information.

To promote a failback replica set to the original volume, follow these steps:

1. On the primary group, select the partner in the far left panel, click the Inbound tab, select the failback replica set in the Local Replicas panel, and then click Promote to volume.
2. In the Pause Inbound Replication confirmation box, confirm that you want to pause inbound replication.
3. In the Promote Replica Set - Volume Options dialog box (Figure 31: Promote Replica Set - Volume Options ), select whether you want to set the volume online. Then, click Next.

4. In the Promote Replica Set - Summary dialog box (Figure 32: Promote Replica Set - Summary ), if the information is correct, click Finish. To make changes, click Back.

The failback replica set will disappear from the Replication Partner Inbound window and reappear in the list of volumes.

Note: After you promote a failback replica set to a volume, the volume is automatically replicated immediately to re-establish the failback snapshot (and the failback baseline). If the volume data is synchronized across the groups, no data will actually be transferred.
