Setting Up Event Notification

It is recommended that you set up event notification to be informed automatically when events occur in the group.

If an event occurs in the group (such as the creation of a volume or the removal of a power supply), a message is generated. You can use these messages to track normal operations and also to detect and diagnose problems before they disrupt operations. View event messages by clicking Events in the far left GUI panel.

Each event is assigned a priority. Table 2: Event Priorities  lists event priorities in order from highest (most severe) to lowest (least severe).

Table 2: Event Priorities

Priority

Description

FATAL

Catastrophic failure that requires immediate administrator intervention.

ERROR

Serious failure that should be investigated and may require administrator intervention.

WARNING

Potential problem in the group that may become an event with ERROR priority if administrator intervention does not occur.

INFO

Normal operational and transitional event that is of interest but does not require intervention.

You can configure the following event notification methods:

For any type of e-mail notification, the group must have access to a Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) server or e-mail relay. Likewise, remote server logging requires the availability of the server.
