Monitoring Hardware
Although array hardware is redundant, be sure to monitor members and quickly replace any failed hardware. Hardware problems will result in alarms that also trigger array LEDs.

Component failures appear in the Member Status windows (Figure 7: Member Status - PS5000 Array Front Panel and Figure 8: Member Status - PS5000 Array Back Panel ).
You can further monitor array components:
- Disks and RAID status. It is important to detect failed disks and replace them as soon as possible. Although spare disks and RAID protect data against disk failures, multiple disk failures may put data in jeopardy. If disk errors occur, consider replacing the disk before it fails completely.

- Control modules and batteries. If the battery status remains at low voltage or low voltage, charging status for an extended period of time, the battery may need to be replaced.

- Network interfaces. If a network interface shows errors, examine the group event log to identify the problem. If a port or network interface fails, you may be able to regain network connectivity by moving the cable connection to a functioning network interface port.

- Power. Make sure there are no red LEDs on the power supplies and no fan problems (if applicable to the power supply).

- Cooling. Periodically, check the room temperature where the hardware is located and ensure that the room is sufficiently cool and ventilated. Make sure there are no red LEDs on the array fan trays or cooling modules and also check member temperature.
One fan failure will not affect a member. However, more than one fan failure will cause the member temperature to rise. If the temperature rises excessively, an event message is generated to warn administrators of the potential problem. If the member temperature reaches its maximum limit, event and alarm messages are generated. Replace the affected fan tray or cooling module as soon as possible.
