Steps for Replicating Volumes
To replicate a volume from one group to another, follow these steps:
- Configure two groups as replication partners. Log in to each group and configure the other group as a replication partner. On each group, you must specify the partner name, partner’s group IP address, and reciprocal passwords for mutual authentication. If a group will be storing replicas from a partner, you must delegate space to the partner. Be sure the partners have the required network connectivity and replication space.

- Configure replication on the volume. Log in to the primary group and configure replication on the volume. Specify the following information for each volume:
Partner that will store the replicas (secondary group). Specify the same partner for all the volumes in a volume collection.
Replica reserve size on the secondary group. See Sizing Delegated Space and the Replica Reserve for more information.
Local replication reserve size on the primary group and whether to enable the "borrow free space" option. See Sizing the Local Replication Reserve for more information.
Whether the first replication will occur over the network or by using manual transfer replication.
Whether to keep the failback snapshot. You will need more local replication reserve if you keep the failback snapshot, than if you do not.

- Start the replication. Either create a replica or set up a schedule to create replicas on a regular basis. You can replicate an individual volume or a volume collection. See Creating Replicas and Scheduling Replication for more information.
Note: If you are using manual transfer replication to transfer the data for the first replication, do not create a replica until you are ready to start the process. See Displaying Replication Status for more information.
- Check that the replication completes. Periodically, you should also check the replication space utilization and make modifications as needed.
