Displaying the Group Configuration and Status

When you first log in to the GUI, the Group Summary window (Figure 1: Group Summary ) appears. This window displays an overview of the group configuration and status. Any alarms are shown in the panel at the bottom of the window.

The Group Information panel shows the number of volumes, snapshots, and collections in the group, in addition to the number of volumes and snapshots that are online and in use (that is, have a current iSCSI connection).

Note: A volume can be offline due to a failure or administrator action. In addition, a thin provisioned volume can go offline if its volume reserve reaches the maximum in-use limit. If volumes are offline, you should investigate whether a failure has occurred. See Displaying Volume Status and Configuration for information about monitoring volumes. By default, snapshots are offline, although you can manually set a snapshot online.

In the Group Disk Space panel, select the type of information you want to display:

• Group space utilization — Group space allocated to volumes, snapshots, local replication reserve, and delegated space and the percentage of free group space.
  
  If free group space is low, you can add members to the group, as described in Adding Members to an Existing Group.
• RAID level space distribution — Group space configured with each RAID level (RAID 10, RAID 5, and RAID 50).
• Storage pool capacity — Percentage of group space in each storage pool and the capacity of each pool.
• Delegated space utilization — Used and free group space delegated to all replication partners.
  
  If free delegated space is low, monitor the replication partners, as described in Displaying Replication Activity Between Partners, to determine which partner needs more delegated space. See Modifying a Replication Partner for information on increasing delegated space.

Note: The group free space shown in the GUI may not reflect the actual free space because the GUI uses a rounding algorithm to calculate free space. To display the actual free space in megabytes, use the CLI command cli-settings displayinMB on. Then use the show command to display the free group space.

The Storage Pools and Group Members panel shows the members, capacity, and the percentage of free space in each storage pool.

A member that has a warning health condition will appear in orange with the warning symbol. A member with a critical health condition will appear in red with an error symbol. An offline member appears in gray. See Displaying Member Configuration and Status for information about monitoring members and diagnosing warning and critical health conditions.

Note: If a pool’s free space is low, consider moving volumes from the low-space pool to a different pool, as described in Moving a Volume Across Pools. You can also move a member to the low-space pool, as described in Moving a Member Across Pools.

The Group General window appears (Figure 2: Group General).

Click the window tabs to display group information and customize the group:

• General — Modify the group name, IP address, location, and description, in addition to the date, time, time zone, and Network Time Protocol (NTP) server configuration for the group. See Modifying the Group Network Configuration and Modifying the Date, Time, and Time Zone for more information.
• Administration — Manage group administration accounts, both locally and using RADIUS authentication and accounting, and control how users can access a group. See Controlling GUI and CLI Management Access and Managing Group Administration Accounts.
• Notifications — Manage group event logging and event notification methods. See Setting Up Event Notification.
• iSCSI — Configure initiator and target authentication for iSCSI access to volumes and snapshots and configure the group to use iSNS servers. See Using CHAP to Control iSCSI Access to Volumes and Using iSNS for iSCSI Device Management.
• SNMP — Manage SNMP access to the group for monitoring purposes. See Using SNMP to Monitor a Group.
• VDS/VSS — Modify the access control records that allow Microsoft® Windows® services to access to the group for management operations. See Modifying Access Controls for Windows Services.
• Defaults — Modify the default settings for all volumes in the group (snapshot space, thin provisioning, and iSCSI alias settings). See Modifying the Group-Wide Volume Settings.
• Advanced — Specify the performance load balancing setting and disallow firmware downgrades. See Controlling Performance Load Balancing and Preventing Member Firmware Downgrades.
